Most journeys through Sri Lanka begin and end in Colombo, and the city rewards a day or two of its own rather than a rushed layover. Colonial-era Fort and Pettah sit alongside leafy Cinnamon Gardens and a fast-growing restaurant and design scene, all within a compact, walkable core.
In the evenings, the long seafront promenade at Galle Face Green fills with kite flyers, food carts and views out over the Indian Ocean — one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to get a feel for the city.
