ABOUT YALA NATIONAL PARK

Highest Leopard Densityon Earth.

Yala’s mix of scrub jungle, lagoons and grassland gives it one of the densest leopard populations anywhere, alongside elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and over 200 recorded bird species. Block 1, the most visited section, offers the best odds of a sighting but also draws the most jeeps.

Game drives run at dawn and dusk when animals are most active, in open 4×4 safari jeeps with a tracker guide. The park closes for roughly a month each year, usually between September and mid-October, to allow the ecosystem to recover.
